Boiler House development & gardens
2026
The development of the community space is progressing. The new sports pitch is open and being enjoyed by both estate residents and the wider community, while the former pitch and adjacent area is set to be transformed into a series of garden spaces as part of the wider redevelopment. The gardens will provide flexible and welcoming outdoor spaces designed to support a wide range of wellbeing needs and everyday activities, encouraging people to spend time outdoors in ways that feel natural and accessible.
The Boiler House charity has worked closely with local residents throughout the project, from early consultation and permaculture workshops to co-design sessions with Heard Landscapes. Residents continue to take an active role, gardening and growing, developing the spaces and gaining skills.
A rain garden has been created in front of the new sports pitch, to help manage surface water and as planning and biodiversity assessments continue, residents remain closely involved in shaping and caring for the space.
Sustainability features across the site so far include tree planting, rainwater harvesting, pollinator-friendly habitats, and wildlife-focused planting. Designed to be welcoming and accessible, the spaces are becoming a shared resource where residents can connect and enjoy nature. As the gardens develop they will continue to offer opportunities to grow food, support wildlife, share tools and knowledge, learn new skills, volunteer, stay active, and spend time outdoors. Spaces include sunny and shaded areas, with places to sit, unwind, reflect and connect.
